Live Where you Love to Be

When we first decided to move to the Traverse City area, we got a lot of guff from friends and family. “Why do you want to live way up there?” “Are you crazy? That’s in the middle of nowhere!” Well, technically it’s not in the middle of nowhere, it’s just tucked away in its own space. And it’s a space we love. We vacationed here nearly every summer for many years, all summer long. Our favorite vacation resort – our canvas tent on state land near a quiet river. AAAHHH the serenity. So we got to thinking - here we are living in southern Michigan, fighting with traffic every stinking day on that awful stretch of US-23 that is ALWAYS under construction, and all the while we’re dreaming of that spot on the Betsie River - the crisp cool water is quietly rolling past, the campfire is warm and crackling a tune, the truck radio is softly crooning some Country Gold, and me - I’m completely at ease in my camp chair soaking it all in. Then a horn blares, shaking me from my dreamy stupor and I’m slamming my brakes, nearly missing the rear end of the car in front of me because of yet another car accident! Finally, we’d had enough and decided - let’s live where we love to be! So we did it. We bought a house and moved “up north” and have never looked back. We live where we vacation – how great is that?
